Description
Peaceful, private, tiny, off-grid cabin available July 21 for a minimum of one month/30 days (PEI rental regs). Ideal for non-smoking single person or couple. Located within walking distance to a beautiful white, sandy beach and one of the island's oldest lighthouses, about a half hour east of Ch'town, a short distance from the village of Morell. Willing to reduce/waive rent in exchange for skilled labour in around the property. (Particularly in need of roofing/carpentry services —You would need to supply your own power tools and a vehicle.) ABOUT THE SPACE: Tiny, insulated, off-grid 8x8 cabin with a small porch. Three windows and a door, and a beautiful skylight. Basic loft with thin foam mattress provided. You could also borrow a large bell tent if you wanted more space. The cabin includes a built-in desk and a chair, as well as a ladder up to the loft. There is no electricity or running water, but you are welcome to use the hose at the back of the main building on the property. There is outdoor seating as well as a fire pit next to the little cabin. There is a rustic composting toilet, rain barrel shower, and an outdoor "kitchen" area. Also an outdoor shower, and the possibility of sharing a washroom, vegetarian kitchen and shower in the main building. ABOUT THE PROPERTY: Our property comprises nearly 3 acres of partially treed land, and is a short walk/bike ride to the beach and local lighthouse, one of the oldest on PEI. We are about a 40-minute drive from downtown Charlottetown. We sometimes invite friends and family to spend time on the property in exchange for helping out around the property. Use of three shared bikes can be included in your stay. A little free library at the edge of the property will keep you in books throughout your time with us, and we also have several firepits and board games as well as an outdoor shower (clothing optional). We are a mostly vegetarian (but not vegan) household. In season, we have fresh mint, lavender, various berries and tomatoes. The property and all buildings on it are strictly non-smoking (that includes vaping). The outdoor shower and several fire pits add to the property’s rustic charm; there are also two indoor toilets and sinks which are shared with the owner, as well as two small outdoor and one indoor kitchen. The living arrangements are “rustic plus”; think of Glamping. ABOUT US: I'm a certified teacher, licensed pilot and mother of adult monozygotic twins. My wife is a commercial pilot who divides her time between Ontario and PEI. We welcome all potential applicants; new Canadians, LGB family, artists and neuro-atypicals are particularly welcome. The elderly gentleman my wife and I look after (and with whom we co-own the property) can be somewhat cranky; he is on site about 20% of the time, and spends the rest of his time in Charlottetown and/or Mexico. He is learning Spanish and also plays chess, but doesn't really like people. When he is here, he obsesses about garbage sorting and washing dishes "properly". We have a human-friendly rescue dog, Sneakers, on site. Unfortunately she is quite dog aggressive, so if you have a pet, that would be a consideration; everyone needs to be leashed at all times and separation maintained. (We do have a fenced in area where dogs can run freely.)
