| Room in heritage house in the Old City area. Students preferred. Summer only rental are OK. Available July 1. Fully furnished room with ensuite bathroom and with use of shared common areas: kitchen, dining room, living area, and laundry. The front bedroom is furnished with a double bed, dresser, bedside table, bookcase, table, and chair. The room has a view of the harbour and Gabriola Island and has an ensuite bath with a shower, no tub. Rent is $750/month, with half a month’s rent as damage deposit. All bedding, towels, pots, dishes, cutlery are also supplied. Utilities and wifi are included in the rent. In the kitchen, each room has a kitchen storage cupboard and a mini fridge as well as freezer space. There is no off-street parking, but street parking is usually not a problem. The house is on the bus route to VIU (8 minutes) or you could walk in about 20 minutes. It is a 10-minute walk from downtown. Students preferred. You will be sharing with the homeowner (retired math prof, aspiring artist, and general eccentric) and her adult son whose young children (aged 3 and 7) come to stay most weekends and maybe for longer periods during school vacation. There are also 2 very shy cats. While the homeowner likes other pets, the cats are rather more particular so you won’t be able to bring any pets with you. Smoking (anything) is not permitted anywhere on the property. No partying and no drugs. If you appreciate listening to music, good conversation, relaxing in the garden, or having a few friends over for dinner and conversation, you’ll fit right in. We try to be environmentally aware and compost and recycle. I rent rooms not just for the money, but also because I like to share my home with interesting people.
